Manchester City are set to lose Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for a record fee of £82 million. This has prompted speculation about potential replacements, with PSG’s Bradley Barcola emerging as a potential target. However, it is unlikely that City will be able to secure a deal for Barcola this summer, as PSG are not willing to sell at this late stage of the transfer window. Barcola, who mainly plays out wide, may not be the ideal like-for-like replacement for Alvarez, who was a prolific goal scorer and assist-maker for City.
Despite Pep Guardiola’s admiration for Barcola, it seems unlikely that City will be able to make a move for him in the current transfer window. With Barcola only joining PSG last summer in a big-money deal, the Parisian club would likely demand a hefty fee to let him go. While City may continue to monitor Barcola’s progress for a future move, it is improbable that the young star will be making a switch to the Premier League this season. Guardiola will have to explore other options to fill the void left by Alvarez’s departure to Atletico Madrid.
