Manchester City players have been defending Erling Haaland after the Norwegian striker suffered many criticisms this season despite winning the golden boot by scoring 27 league goals.

Haaland, who is having his second season at the Premier League champions, was subjected to media criticism over his overall playing abilities. The striker was said to offer nothing to the team except to find the back of the net.

Therefore, he was described as a complete useless player whenever he failed to score. Roy Keane criticised him after the goalless draw against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium in March.

According to the former Manchester United defender, Erling Haaland’s performance against the Gunners was poor for the standard of the English top-flight league, stating that the Manchester City strike looked like a ‘league two player’.

Many Man City players as well as Pep Guardiola have defended Haaland and commended his determination to keep doing his best for the team despite the criticisms.

Jack Grealish described the Norwegian as a hard-working player who is having another incredible season with over 30 goals for Manchester City in all competitions.

According to The Sun, the England international said: “He’s just unbelievable – a killer. I can’t speak highly enough of him. This season he’s scored 27 goals in the league.

“It’s a bit disrespected – as if it’s not good. But he’s there every time the ball is in the box and I’ve never seen anyone with his work ethic.”

Haaland after presented with the Golden Boot award said he would like to continue having the same season as this even it was described as a bad season for him by his critics.

“If this is a bad season, then I’ll take it,’ said Haaland, who then added sarcastically: “It was a bad season, plain and simple — the only way is up. The more haters and critics, the better,” Haaland said.
