Mikel Arteta once again opened up about the title race after Man City beat Arsenal to the league title for the second consecutive season. The Arsenal boss described the experience as ‘painful’ but insisted that the team would go again next campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City made history on the final matchday of the 2023/24 season. The Sky Blues defeated West Ham United 3-1 to end Arsenal’s hope of winning the first league title in 20 years.

However, despite the setback, Mikel Arteta believes that his team have improved greatly and will be ready to compete once again, even though losing the title on the last day last season was painful.

“I’m a winner and it takes me a while when I don’t reach the dreams,” the former Pep Guardiola assistant who left City for the Gunners in 2019 said according to Mirror.

“I think we should be very proud of what we’ve done throughout this season both in European competition and the Premier League. But as well, that feeling of being disappointed and not having the Premier League in our hands is painful.”

Even though Man City beat Arsenal to the league title, the Gunners were much more improved in their approach when compared to the previous season. The City took four points from the Cityzens; a victory at the Emirates and a draw at Etihad. They were also undefeated against the top six clubs throughout the season.

“I think it’s been a really exciting season right up to the last minutes of the last day and we are fighting for the Premier League,” Arteta added.

“I think we built so much excitement as well belief around our fans, around the players, around the club that we really wanted to deliver that moment to them. I think they deserve it. I think the team deserve it. You have to congratulate Man City at the end after 38 games. Two points more than us and they are the winners.”
