Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has expressed his interest in going out for dinner with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The two managers are gearing up for what could potentially be their final showdown this weekend, as Manchester City prepares to take on Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Guardiola’s team is aiming to surpass Liverpool and reclaim the top spot in the Premier League with a victory on Merseyside. This match marks Klopp’s last encounter with Manchester City at Anfield as the Reds’ manager.

Klopp recently announced his decision to step down at the end of the current season, opting to take a break from management.

Under his leadership since 2015, Liverpool secured the Carabao Cup last month and is on a quest to win four trophies in his final season.

On the other hand, Manchester City currently holds both the Premier League and FA Cup titles and is determined to defend their titles.

There is just one point separating the two teams ahead of this highly anticipated fixture. Despite Manchester City winning only two of their last seven meetings and being winless at Anfield since 2021, the battle remains intense.

Guardiola and Klopp have engaged in several fierce battles and title races over the years. Despite Manchester City claiming five Premier League titles compared to Liverpool’s one since 2016, both managers have immense respect for one another.

Ahead of their 30th meeting this weekend and with Klopp’s impending departure from Premier League management, Guardiola expressed his desire to have a meal with the German manager.

“When we were honoured to get in the Hall of Fame we spent time with families, but in terms of lunch or dinners, it never happened,” said Guardiola.

“We have to decide who pays, that’s why we didn’t do it. I think it’s going to happen sooner or later, I would love it.”

The two managers have faced each other not just in England but also in the Bundesliga, where Guardiola managed Bayern Munich and Klopp led Borussia Dortmund.

Guardiola joked about the possibility of dining together, stating that they have yet to decide who will foot the bill. However, he expressed his willingness to make it happen soon.
