Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester City right-back Yan Couto’s potential move to Borussia Dortmund. Couto had previously agreed in principle to join Dortmund after impressing during a loan spell at Girona last season. City had viewed Couto as the long-term successor to Kyle Walker, but now they are reportedly ready to offload the Brazilian. Dortmund are unwilling to pay Couto’s €40 million release clause and are negotiating a fee in the range of €20-25 million.
Couto is known for his attacking abilities and has been compared to Joao Cancelo in playing style. Despite his talent, it seems unlikely that he will break into City’s first team after loan spells at Girona and Braga. Dortmund’s interest in Couto has prompted discussions with City, but the German club is reluctant to pay the full release clause. City may opt to hold out for a higher fee given Couto’s potential and expiring contract in 2025.
The situation between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund regarding Yan Couto’s transfer fee is uncertain. City may push for a larger fee, while Dortmund is hesitant to meet the release clause. It remains to be seen if a deal will be reached or if negotiations will break down, leaving Couto’s future hanging in the balance.
