‘He’s got everything’ – Journalists praise Man City ‘fantastic’ player who eclipsed Haaland and De Bruyne

Erling Haaland might have helped himself to two more goals as Manchester City saw off Brighton today, but other City players shone as well.

The Cityzens cruised past Brighton in the end despite a goal from Leandro Trossard threatening to make the game a closer contest than it might have been. Haaland bullied his way to an opener before slotting in a penalty, while Kevin De Bruyne got himself on the scoresheet late on as well.

However, despite De Bruyne and Haaland scoring again, BBC Sport’s Paul Robinson was left blown away by just how good Spanish midfielder Rodri was. Often the glue in the middle for City, Rodri was once again one fine form and Robinson admitted he is his favourite player in the game.

“Rodri is my favourite player. He is fantastic,” Robinson said for the BBC.

“He’s the all-round central midfielder. He’s got everything; he cruises through games. One of the best players in the world.”

Simon Bajkowski of the Manchester Evening News gave Rodri a player rating of 7/10 and said he was ‘impressive’ in defence. Grey Whitebloom of 90min gave the Spanish international a player rating of 6/10 and said he put in a ‘decent performance’.

Rodri is always picked by Pep Guardiola in the big games and while City signed Kalvin Phillips in the summer to provide back up and competition, the England man’s injuries have seen Rodri thrive again.
