Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing up a move for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.
The 23-year-old has been enjoying a fine start to the 2023/24 season, with six goals and five assists from 13 matches across all competitions.
The Argentine international also signed a new contract with the treble-winners earlier this year, committing his future to the Cityzens until 2028.
And with his prominence in the team rising, more and more suitors have started to emerge for the Manchester City attacker whose market value stands at €80 million.
As mentioned this morning by Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona have taken a liking towards Julian Alvarez. The 23-year-old is seen as a potential long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who is entering the final phase of his career.
But, Barça will now have to face competition from bitter rivals Real Madrid, with journalist Sebastian Srur claiming that the Galacticos are also interested in signing the Manchester City striker.
The likes of Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland are understood to be their top targets, but it appears that Alvarez has also crept into their shortlist for the summer.
Real Madrid are said to be looking for a centre-forward, and since Alvarez has the competition of Erling Haaland at Manchester City, a move to the Santiago Bernabéu could end up sounding quite attractive to him.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@ArcticBlock: “Nah he ain’t going nowhere”
@Fraz0rDk: “He aint for sale”
@slxvxid: “Sell Haaland instead”
@MananAnand205: “They can have Erling for once but not alvarez. He is our brightest prospect.”
@Ana__Muhammad: “I’d rather sell them haaland for 150m”
@joemontana100: “It’s hilarious how Real and Barca haughtily announce, with alarming frequency, that this player or that player is in their plans. I thought they were a bit hard-up?”
@sayurimisa: “This is just most random sh*t ever being made up. He is not going anywhere”
@PhemeloPix: “Julian Alvarez shouldn’t go because he’s an investment, Haaland can go because he isn’t a long term investment and 2 season for him is enough. Even his interviews when joining City him and his father indirectly emphasized on how Haaland wants to explore other leagues too”
