Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has acknowledged that Liverpool is the clear favorite to win the Premier League title. Despite being in close proximity to Jurgen Klopp’s side in the league table, Guardiola believes that Liverpool has the edge in the title race.
The recent match between Manchester City and Arsenal ended in a draw, with both teams unable to secure a decisive victory. Arsenal had hoped for a rare win at the Etihad Stadium, while Manchester City were aiming to bolster their chances of defending their title. However, the stalemate meant that Liverpool now holds the advantage in the title race.
With only nine games left to play, Guardiola is aware that Liverpool will be determined to maintain their position at the top of the table. Currently sitting in third place, Manchester City is trailing Liverpool by three points and is just two points behind Arsenal.
In post-match press conference, Guardiola was asked if Liverpool is now the clear favorite to win the title. He responded by affirming Liverpool’s status as the frontrunners, with Arsenal in second place and Manchester City in third.
He replied: “Yes. Always who is first is the favourites, second is Arsenal and we are third.”
“It was in our hands, now it’s not. All we can do is think of Aston Villa (on Wednesday). If you are top of the league – like we’ve been before – you are favourites.”
Manchester City has struggled against the top teams in the league, failing to secure a win against any of the current top five sides. Their defeat in the first-leg match against Aston Villa highlighted their challenges, especially in the absence of midfielder Rodri.
Despite these setbacks, Manchester City is gearing up to face Aston Villa once again and is determined to claim all three points to keep their title hopes alive. Guardiola understands the significance of every game at this stage of the season and is focused on guiding his team to a strong finish.
As the Premier League title race intensifies, Guardiola and his team are fully aware of the competition they face from Liverpool and Arsenal. With the pressure mounting, Manchester City is prepared to give their all in the remaining games to challenge for the title and assert their dominance in English football.
