Former Premier League defender Mikael Silvestre has rules Manchester City out from Premier League title claiming it will be a three-horse race between Manchester United, Liverpool and Leicester City this season.

City moved to within four points of the Premier League summit as Phil Foden’s goal earned them a nervy 1-0 victory over struggling Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday.

The Citizens now have 32 points from 16 games, four behind leaders Manchester United and one behind champions Liverpool having played one match less.

But the former Manchester United defender doesn’t see Pep Guardiola’s side keeping pace with either United or Liverpool over the course of the campaign.

“For me there are only three teams in this year’s title race: Man United, Liverpool, and I’m going to put Leicester in there as well,” Silvestre said as quoted by Mirror

“It’s a wide-open season and it’s good for Man United to be in the race instead of playing catch-up and looking on from a distance”.

Why you can never write Manchester City off

After an uncertain start to a delayed campaign, City now look anything but strugglers. The relentless consistency that was the foundation for titles wins in 2018 and 2019 is slowly returning.

For the first time this season, City have won four successive league games and have not lost since November in all competitions.

The Citizens have conceded only three goals in the 14 games since the 2-0 defeat to Tottenham in November and have the tightest defence in the league having shipped 13 goals in 16 games.

To add that, City have a very easy FA Cup draw against Cheltenham Town, while United and Liverpool face off against each other again next week, which is sure to drain the already fatigued squads even more.

Pep Guardiola’s men seem to be in top gear at exactly the right time of the season. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Foden, Ilkay Gündogan and Bernardo Silva have showed why you can never write City off.
