Former Manchester City player Cole Palmer has congratulated Phil Foden for winning the Premier League Player of The Season Award for his stellar performance in the league this season.

Palmer, who left Man City for Chelsea last summer. The youngster joined the Blues in a £40 million deal and had enjoyed a fantastic debut season at the Stamford Bridge.

As a result of his contributions to Chelsea, he was nominated for the Premier League player of the season with Arsenal players, Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice. Also on the list was Aston Villa sensational striker Ollie Watkins, Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk, and Manchester City duo, Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

On Saturday, Phil Foden was declared the winner of the prestigious award as a result of his 17 goals and 8 assists in the league and for keeping Manchester City in the title race during the absence of Kelvin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland.

Reacting to the success of his former teammate, Cole Palmer, who scored 22 league goals and provided 10 other assists, congratulated Foden and described the 23-year-old as his friend.

“Congratulations to my friend Phil Foden for winning the Premier League Player of the Season,” Palmer tweeted.

Early this month, Phil Foden won the Football Writers Association Footballer Of The Year Award and on Saturday to become the first English player to win the Premier League player of the season since Jamie Vardy in 2015/16 season when Leicester City won the league title.

“To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of,” Foden said after winning the award. “The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs.

“I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn’t be possible. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.”
