Former Manchester City player Cole Palmer is determined to prove Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, wrong as he returns to the Etihad Stadium with Chelsea this weekend. The 21-year-old left Manchester City last summer due to frustration with the lack of game time. When asked if Saturday’s game is an opportunity to show Guardiola what he has been missing, Palmer replied that he tries to do that in every game.
Before the 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge in November, Palmer stated that he did not want to leave City. However, after not being given the chance to go out on loan again, he felt that he had no choice but to move to another club in order to play regularly. Since then, the decision has appeared to work out well for the midfielder, who has scored 12 goals and provided 9 assists in 28 appearances for Chelsea.
Guardiola also had his say about City’s decision to sell Palmer, stating that it was the player who pushed for the move. According to Guardiola, he offered Palmer a chance to play for City when Riyad Mahrez was leaving, but Palmer expressed his desire to leave, which led to the decision to sell him for £42.5m before the start of September.
Palmer is eagerly anticipating this weekend’s game against his former team. He expressed that returning to the Etihad Stadium as an opposition player will be a strange experience and expects a tough game. Despite the potential difficulty, he is looking forward to going back to the Etihad, and he and his team are ready for the challenge.
