During his time at Manchester City, sporting director Txiki Begiristain has been involved in numerous successful transfer deals, including those for star players like Erling Haaland, Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jack Grealish. Cesc Fabregas recently revealed that he had talks with City in 2014 before ultimately joining Chelsea, citing Jose Mourinho’s convincing as the deciding factor. Fabregas, who had a successful spell at Chelsea with 22 goals and 57 assists in 198 appearances, could have been a valuable signing for City had Begiristain been able to secure his move to the club.
Fabregas, who had a distinguished career at Arsenal before moving to Barcelona and then Chelsea, was impressed by City’s project under Begiristain but ultimately chose Chelsea due to Mourinho’s persuasiveness. Despite the strong connection he felt with City’s David Silva, Fabregas believed that Mourinho’s vision for him at Chelsea was the best option for his career at the time. Had Fabregas joined City, his prolific playmaking abilities could have added significant value to the team, showcasing Begiristain’s role in shaping the club’s transfer strategy during his tenure.
