Borussia Dortmund have made contact with Manchester City regarding a potential deal for 22-year-old right-back Yan Couto. Due to UEFA rules, Manchester City cannot engage in transfer activity with their sister club, Girona, until at least September 2025, opening up Couto’s future to other potential suitors this summer.
Dortmund has expressed interest in signing Couto, but there are differences in valuations at this stage. Dortmund is aiming to invest between €20 million and €25 million, while Manchester City is demanding around €30 million. However, Dortmund has no intention of meeting Couto’s €40 million release clause and hopes to negotiate a lower price.
Manchester City’s Issa Kabore, another right-back talent, is also on the transfer agenda of several clubs, and his future is being finalized this summer. City is expected to start the upcoming season with Kyle Walker as their first-choice right-back, with support from other players like Rico Lewis, John Stones, and Manuel Akanji.
