Borussia Dortmund’s pursuit of Manchester City full-back Yan Couto this summer could be unsuccessful due to City’s current financial demands. Despite never making a first-team appearance for Manchester City, Couto, aged 22, has recently signed a contract extension with the Sky Blues after completing a successful loan spell at Girona FC in La Liga.
Couto played a crucial role in helping Girona secure UEFA Champions League football for the upcoming season, making 39 appearances and contributing to 12 goals for the Catalan club. However, due to an agreement between City Football Group and UEFA, Couto is unable to return to Girona for the 2024/25 season. Real Madrid has also shown interest in Couto, with reports suggesting a price tag of €40 million this summer.
Although Borussia Dortmund has ‘agreed a deal in principle’ with Couto and the player is keen on the move, Manchester City’s financial demands are complicating negotiations. Couto’s Girona teammate Savio is expected to join Manchester City, further adding to the complexity of the transfer situation between the two clubs.
