In 2014, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola considered becoming the head coach of Brazil’s national team before ultimately staying on at Manchester City. Guardiola, who has won multiple trophies with the Premier League club, is currently preparing for his ninth season with the team and his contract is set to expire at the end of the upcoming season. He has achieved significant success at Manchester City, including six Premier League titles in seven years and a treble-winning 2022/23 season.
Despite his success at Manchester City, Guardiola’s career could have taken a different turn when he left Barcelona, as he was in negotiations to become the head coach of Brazil’s national team in 2014. However, Guardiola ultimately remained at Manchester City and continued to achieve success with the club. Looking ahead, there is speculation that Guardiola could consider international management once his time at Manchester City comes to an end, potentially before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States.
Agent André Cury revealed that Guardiola was close to becoming Brazil’s head coach in 2014, but the opportunity fell through due to what he believes was a lack of preparation on the part of the leaders. Guardiola has signed multiple contract extensions with Manchester City and has enjoyed a successful tenure at the club since his arrival in 2016. His potential departure from Manchester City next summer could open up the possibility for him to pursue a national team job in the future.
