Matheus Nunes had a disappointing performance during Manchester City’s 2-0 win over Everton.

The Citizens secured three points at the Etihad Stadium thanks to two goals from Erling Haaland, putting them in contention to potentially regain the Premier League title.

However, despite the positive result, there was one player, Nunes, who started for the home side and delivered a performance that did not meet the usual standard expected from a City player.

Nunes, who City signed from Wolves for £53m during the previous summer transfer window, only completed the first half against the Toffees and was substituted in the 57th minute, replaced by Kevin De Bruyne.

During his time on the pitch, Nunes had 42 touches of the ball but only accurately completed 24 of the 30 passes he attempted. He also misplaced three crosses and two long-ball passes and only completed one of the four dribbles he made.

Additionally, he did not make a tackle or interception and lost four of the six duels he was involved in. This led to Pep Guardiola’s decision to substitute him in the second half.

Nunes received a disappointing match rating of 6.7/10 from SofaScore, making him the lowest-rated City player on the day.

While Nunes will be pleased with the team’s win and clean sheet, Guardiola may be disappointed with what he saw from the Portuguese international on this occasion.

Moving forward, it will be interesting to see if this performance has any impact on whether Guardiola decides to keep Nunes in the team for City’s upcoming Champions League match against Copenhagen.
