Pep Guardiola has undoubtedly transformed Manchester City into a dominant force in the English top-flight league and a different club in the Champions League.

Before Guardiola’s tenure, Manchester City struggled in European competitions despite domestic success. In the 2015/16 season, their best in Europe before Guardiola, they only reached the semi-finals.

Since Guardiola’s appointment in 2016/17, Manchester City has reached one semi-final and two finals in the Champions League, winning one final and securing their first major European trophy.

Despite their dominance on the field, Girona manager Mitchel expressed a desire to avoid Manchester City in the Champions League to prevent potential humiliation.

Speaking in an interview with Spanish outlet Cadena SER, as translated by Sport Witness, Mitchel stated, “I would not like Manchester City to be our rival because we have some connection and apart from that, I do not want to suffer.”

Manchester City was eliminated from the Champions League quarter-finals by Real Madrid, unable to overcome the Spanish giants despite efforts in the return leg at the Etihad Stadium.

The Sky Blues have secured another Champions League football and will aim to do better next season, potentially winning the trophy for the second time in three years.
