Premier League striker Michail Antonio has criticized Arsenal fans, calling them “delusional” for their excitement over the team’s recent success.
Arsenal has won eight Premier League games in a row and advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals with a penalty shootout victory over Porto. Despite their strong form, Antonio believes the fans are getting ahead of themselves.
Arsenal currently sits at the top of the Premier League table, competing with Manchester City and Liverpool for their first league title in 20 years. They also face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals, with a potential semi-final against City or Real Madrid looming.
Antonio expressed his frustration with Arsenal fans on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport’s podcast, stating that they become overly confident whenever the team is close to winning something.
“I’m talking about my agent my family and my friends. Because as soon as they are tiptoeing close to [winning] anything, they’re the best team in the world. It’s actually unbelievable how delusional these people are.”
However, Antonio also acknowledged Arsenal’s impressive performance in turning their season around compared to the previous year.
He praised the team for stepping up during the crucial period where their title challenge faltered last season. He compared Arsenal to Manchester City, noting their strong form since the beginning of the year.
The upcoming match against Manchester City after the international break could be pivotal in the title race. Antonio believes that Arsenal’s performance in this match will be a true test of their title credentials.
Overall, while Antonio feels that Arsenal fans need to temper their expectations, he also recognizes the team’s potential and recent form.
Arsenal’s success in both domestic and European competitions has been impressive, and the fans’ excitement is understandable considering their recent performances.
