Joleon Lescott commended Ruben Dias for his remarkable block for Manchester City in the second half of their game against Brentford.
City emerged victorious with a 3-1 win at the Gtech Community Stadium, closing the gap to just two points behind Liverpool in the Premier League table.
The outstanding Phil Foden scored a flawless hat-trick, marking his second for the club. Foden’s remarkable form continued as he played in a central role, with Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland both providing assists.
While Foden’s performance grabbed headlines, Lescott praised the City defender, Dias, for a crucial moment.
Dias returned to the side for the Brentford game after not featuring in the win over Burnley, showing solid performance throughout the match. One particularly important block from Dias came in the second half.
At the hour mark, Brentford pushed forward with a cross from Sergio Reguilon that was deflected to an onrushing Oliver Norgaard. Dias successfully denied Norgaard, preventing Brentford from equalizing.
On City’s Matchday Live show, Lescott praised Dias, stating, “He loves it! Ever since he’s come we’ve seen him celebrate tackles and blocks. The art of defending is definitely in his blood. He would have enjoyed that. Frustrated that they haven’t kept a clean sheet. Overall I think he can be pleased with his performance.”
Dias’ defensive action proved crucial as City held a narrow 2-1 lead at that moment. As a defensive-oriented player in a team known for playing aesthetically pleasing football, Dias’ dedication to the art of defending is valuable to the team.
His willingness to put his body on the line and make crucial interventions has been commendable since his arrival at the club.
Ultimately, Dias’ performance against Brentford showcased his love for defending, motivating his teammates and contributing significantly to City’s victory.
