Manchester City have expressed their interest in signing Lucas Paqueta from West Ham and have informed his agents about their intention to pursue a deal in the upcoming summer window. However, City may pull out of the chase if Paqueta’s ongoing betting case with the FA does not come to a resolution soon. Last summer, City had similar issues with the signing of Declan Rice and ended up pursuing Paqueta as an alternative.
If City decides to move away from their pursuit of Paqueta, it could open the door for other clubs to enter the race for the Brazilian midfielder. Manchester United is reportedly interested in Paqueta as well and could potentially match City’s financial offer. In the meantime, City may consider targeting Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace as an alternative to Paqueta, as they seek a midfielder who can match the impact of their departed star Ilkay Gundogan.
Guardiola sees Paqueta as a valuable addition to City’s midfield, but the decision ultimately hinges on the FA’s verdict on the betting case. If the delay continues, the player’s agents may pursue legal action against the governing body for loss of earnings. With uncertainty surrounding Paqueta’s potential transfer, City may explore other options such as Eze or face competition from rival clubs in the pursuit of the midfielder.
