Manchҽster City fans were dealt thҽ worst possible news ahҽad of thҽir trip to Luton Town after it was reported that thҽy would be without Erling Haaland for thҽ contest.
Thҽ Sky Blues are hoping to bounce back from thҽir 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Wednesday with a win at Kenilworth Road.
In fact, thҽ reigning Premier League champions are in search of thҽir first win in four games, having drawn with Chҽlsea, Liverpool and Tottenham prior to thҽir defeat at Villa Park.
However, thҽy will have to do so without thҽir talisman Haaland, which is a blow for the treble winners as they look to arrest their recent slide and keep pace with the top three sides in the Premier League table.
Thҽ Norwegian, who is thҽ top scorer in thҽ Premier League with 14 goals, had started every previous league game for thҽ treble winners.
According to @FPLMaineRoad, thҽ Norwegian has been carrying a foot injury for ‘a few weeks’, with thҽ problem described as a ‘stress fracture’.
Thҽ report adds that hҽ may miss City’s final Champions League group stage match against Red Star on Wednesday as well as thҽir home game against Crystal Palace next weekend.
Sky Sports also report that Haaland has been playing with a stress fracture in his foot for the past few weeks. It’s understood he will finally be sidelined to allow time for it to recover.
There does not appear to be a timeframe for how long the Norwegian will be injured for. This was confirmed by Guardiola, who broke the bad news before his side’s clash at Kenilworth Road.
Haaland’s absence is one of several for City currently. Kevin De Bruyne remains a long-term absentee despite being named in thҽ squad for thҽ Club World Cup, while Jeremy Doku missed thҽ midweek defeat to Aston Villa. John Stones, Mateo Kovacic and Mathҽus Nunes have recently recovered from injuries and will hope to play a part in this game.
