Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Bayern Munich have no plans to trigger the option to buy clause in Joao Cancelo’s loan deal.
The 28-year-old made a surprise switch to the Allianz Arena from the Premier League champions in January after falling out of favour under Pep Guardiola.
It was alleged that a bust-up between player and manager sparked Cancelo’s sudden exit, although the Portugal international has since denied that such a fracas occurred.
As things stand, Cancelo will return to the Etihad for the 2023-24 season, and he remains contracted to Man City for another four years.
However, Bayern possess the option to make his stay in Bavaria permanent, but according to Kicker via GGFN, they will not activate the €70M buy option in João Cancelo’s loan from Man City and, at the current moment, will not even negotiate a reduced fee.
As per the report, Bayern and City have both seen firsthand how Cancelo’s mood can swing in a negative direction when he isn’t regularly selected for games, and this has led to the Bavarian club passing up on the option to sign the defender for good this summer.
