A series of Manchester City fans have been impressed by the comments made by Pep Guardiola on the club’s stance on another left-back signing, following Sergio Gomez’s deal.
It’s been more than five years since City last bought a left-back in Benjamin Mendy, who has been the least successful signing of the Guardiola era.
The creative Catalan has managed to get by in the interim, successfully redeploying midfielders such as Zinchenko and Fabian Delph as left-backs, or moving across centre-backs to fill the void.
However, with just three weeks of the transfer window remaining, City are once again looking for a viable long-term solution to their one problem position.
The Sky Blues have been linked with a host options this summer, including Bundesliga duo Raphael Guerreiro and Borna Sosa. Atletico Madrid’s Renan Lodi has also recently emerged as a possible target.
Pep Guardiola’s side are on the verge of signing Sergio Gomez from Anderlecht, with the 21 year-old reportedly set to complete an initial £11 million transfer, in a deal which could rise to £16.9 million.
Pep Guardiola confirmed on Friday that the young left-back would remain with the first-team squad at the Etihad Stadium.
However, he also hinted that the club remain in the market for another left-back, despite the imminent arrival of Gomez.
Guardiola responded with a defiant ‘no’, when asked whether the signing of Gomez would prevent City from signing another left sided full-back this summer.
The news was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
