Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims the club is preparing to offer Ilkay Gundogan a new deal, with Pep Guardiola desperate not to lose the German ace.
The Germany international, who turns 32 in October, has now entered the final 12 months on his current ÂŁ150,000-a-week contract at the Etihad Stadium and his long-term future at the club is believed to be uncertain.
Gundogan reminded all of his worth on the final day of the 21-22 campaign, scoring twice off the bench to beat Aston Villa. The win secured the Premier League title for Pep Guardiolaâs side.
The ex-Borussia Dortmund ace, who was the first signing of the Guardiloa era back in 2016 at a cost of ÂŁ20million, has now started both league games for City this season and is likely to keep his place if he continues to put in good performances.
After handing Riyad Mahrez a new two-year contract last month, Gundogan is believed to be the next contract priority.
According to Daily Star, Manchester City are preparing to offer Ilkay Gundogan a new deal as they step up efforts to keep hold of the German ace.
Itâs states that Pep Guardiola still regards Gundogan as a pivotal figure in his first-team plans for this season and beyond.
Despite stating earlier this month that he is no rush to sort out a new contract, Gundogan is believed to favour staying put. It remains to be seen whether he will be offered the chance to extend his time in sky blue.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the clubâs supporters.

âAbout time, was wondering why we havenât yet, class player never out of form and loves the club, even when he doesnât start is patient enough to wait for his opportunities+ Captain đ.â

âSince Gundoganâs arrival, when the team needs a goal, he always provides. 20/21 he was crucial in that winning streak. 21/22 he was there vs Villa and in between. He deserves his flowers.â

âFully deserved extension, he just gets better the older he gets.â

âNo sense losing Gundo and Silva over two summers. Sell the malcontent and reward Gundo with a new deal. Then go and buy the next guy..â

âThis would be great. Gundo stays for more 2 years and Silva leaves next summer to let us sign Jude. Perfect scenario.â

âGreat news, heâs so good and such an intelligent player. Aging like a fine wine. Couldnât care less about Bellingham. New isnât always better. Let PSG, Chelsea and the other clubs with no soul change players every year with no longterm plans. Thatâs not the way City do business.â

âItâs as simple to say Gundo is the new captain of Manchester City football club.â
