Manchester City are expected to confirm their second major signing of the summer transfer window shortly, but does inbound England playmaker Kalvin Phillips have what it takes to shine under Pep Guardiola?
Having already won the race for Borussia Dortmund goal machine Erling Haaland — who cost £51million — City have agreed a fee with Leeds United for Phillips.
The terms are still to be ironed out put as per reports on Friday, it’s claimed that the agreement is worth an initial £42million rising to £45million with add-ons.
Although PSG made the call about Phillips a week ago, Manchester City was always the likeliest of destinations for the 26-year-old, whose 2021/22 season was majorly disrupted by hamstring surgery.
According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, other Premier League clubs tried to explore a deal for Kalvin Phillips with proposals ‘way better’ than that of Man City’s to Leeds United.
Romano went ahead to states that the Leeds United star only wanted to play for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.
The midfielder will leave Elland Road as a firm favourite among the Leeds fanbase. Phillips is said to have flatly refused the idea of signing for Manchester United as well, something which will go down well with the Leeds fans.
The report was shared on Twitter and it attracted plenty of attention from Manchester City supporters.

Does Kalvin Phillips have what it takes to shine under Pep Guardiola?
He’ll need to be patient and accept he won’t be playing every single week, but Kalvin Phillips can take his game to the next level at City.
With Guardiola as his manager, he’ll only improve further which can be a good thing for both the player and England.
