‘Talk your talk’, ‘You won the real trophy’ – Man City fans react as Aymeric Laporte hits out at PFA Team of the Year omission

Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte was far from impressed after he was left out of the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

The Spanish international was not selected for the honour in favour of Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, despite Manchester City’s Premier League glory.

The 28-year-old played 33 times for Pep Guardiola in the league this season, as they withstood the charge from Liverpool at the top.

The PFA Premier League Team of the Year was announced on Thursday. It included six Liverpool players but just three from Manchester City Laporte was one of those to miss out and he was not impressed

Fuming Laporte hits out at his omission from the PFA Team of the Year with series of social media posts highlighting his impressive stats for Manchester City, plus a Jose Mourinho GIF with a series of emoticons to express his frustration.

The GIF was from a famous interview in which Mourinho said he ‘preferred not to speak’ because if he did he ‘would be in big trouble’.

It’s easy to understood why Laporte feels hard done by, simply by looking at the numbers he shared himself.

The centre-back completed the most passes (2767) in the league and had the highest passing accuracy (94.85%). He also averaged the highest number of accurate passes per 90 (87.9).

Furthermore, no centre-back managed more than his four goals or three last-man tackles. All this with City having the joint best defensive record in the top flight.

Man City fans on Twitter were quick to back up their centre-back but were also keen to remind him that, at the end of the day, he got his hands on the prize that matters more than any other.
