Manchester City have reportedly made a bid for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips following recent transfer rumours claiming they were preparing to do so.
Following the official announcement of Erling Braut Haaland’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium on Monday, Pep Guardiola is now believed to be on the lookout to find a replacement for Fernandinho.
Phillips has recently been strongly linked with a move to Man City, with the Daily Mail claiming they valued the England international at around £60million as they prepared to make an offer.
He is reportedly admired by both Guardiola and City’s director of football, Txiki Begiristain and plan to reach out to Leeds once England have completed this current round of Nations League games.
According to Football Insider, the Premier League champions view Phillips as their primary target for the remainder of the summer window, although they are set to face competition from the likes of Manchester United, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and West Ham United for the 26-year-old’s signature.
The report adds that the Citizens have now submitted their first offer for the Yorkshireman, who could be available for around £50m this summer.
City are understood to have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Phillips as Leeds are allegedly set to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca as his replacement.
The 19-cap England international, who has featured 234 times for his boyhood club since making his debut in 2015, has two years remaining on his contract at Elland Road.
