Manchester City will be without Kyle Walker for tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Leeds United at Elland Road.
The Sky Blues started Tuesday’s Champions League tie with Real Madrid without Walker, who has been out of action since suffering an ankle issue in a 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid nearly three weeks ago.
He is also a doubt for City’s Champions League semi-final second leg versus Real Madrid on Wednesday.
The England star was rumoured to have trained in secret ahead the midweek meeting against Real Madrid – but he was not in the squad for that match.
Asked if the England international could miss the remainder of the season, Guardiola responded: “I don’t know right now. Right now, it’s no worry at all – I count on the guys who are fit. He has to work to come back as soon as possible.”
At what is a crucial time in the season, this has come at a bid time for the reigning champions as Liverpool continue to pile pressure on the league leaders. Jurgen Klopp’s side remain within one point of City and have the chance to open up a two-point lead should victory over Newcastle United be secured.
With a number of crunch fixtures ahead, Guardiola said it was important to focus on the players he knew were fit.
He said: “He’s injured – unfortunately for all of us and him especially – but I don’t pay attention. He has to work to come back as soon as possible. I am focused on the rest of the players.”
These Guardiola’s comments were shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
