Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims River Plate striker Julián Álvarez is known to idolise Sergio Aguero.
The Sky Blues still haven’t replaced Sergio Aguero since he left last summer, but BBC Sport say Pep Guardiola will be pushing to bring in another striker by the end of the season.
One player they ‘hope to complete a deal’ for is Julian Alvarez – a 21-year-old striker who joined River Plate in 2015.
Alvarez, who is out of contract in December, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects in South American football, and after excelling in his native Argentina, he is now expected to make the next step in his career, with a potential move to Pep Guardiola’s side on the horizon.
He has been heavily linked with a potential switch to Manchester City across the past few days, with negotiations between all relevant parties seemingly accelerating in a matter of hours on Saturday.
It is believed that the Citizens are prepared to activate the 21-year-old’s release clause, worth in the region of £17m, in a bid to fend off interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
According to Sky Sports Premier League, Manchester City’s talks to sign River Plate striker Julian Alvarez are progressing well, with the deal expected to be in the region of £17m.
The report further states that the Argentina international striker is known to idolise Aguero, City’s all-time top-scorer with 260 goals in 390 appearances for the club
“I like Kun Aguero a lot and I try to copy his movements,” he said in an interview with La Nacion in 2019 – and a move to the Etihad Stadium would give him the opportunity to follow in his former international team-mate’s footsteps.
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Xtra, Man City Fans as usual have expressed their thoughts and opinions.
