Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne has labelled Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski as the favourite to win the Ballon d’Or and and the player he believes is the best in the world at present.
Two weeks ago, the 30 Ballon D’or nominees were revealed and the midfielder is one of five Manchester City stars to make the 30-man shortlist after winning the Premier League and reaching a first Champions League final.
The full list is: Lewandowski, Salah, Jorginho, Azpilicueta, Lukaku, Ronaldo, Foden, Gerard Moreno, Mbappe, Suarez, De Bruyne, Dias, Kjaer, Neymar, Lautaro Martinez, Messi, Pedri, Chiellini, Bruno Fernandes, Modric, Mahrez, Haaland, Kante, Mount, Bonucci, Donnarumma, Kane, Benzema, Barella, Sterling.
De Bruyne believes the Bayern Munich striker deserves to take the crown away from Lionel Messi, who received his seventh prize in 2019.
Speaking ahead of City’s trip to Belgium to take on Club Brugges, De Bruyne revealed that his vote will be going Lewandowski, who broke the Bundesliga goalscoring record last campaign and who was unlucky to see the 2020 Ballon D’or cancelled, for which he was favourite.
‘I think if I have to choose I am going to look at a two-year period,’ De Bruyne said. ‘I would choose Lewandowski for what he has done, scored a lot of goals and won a lot with Bayern.’
These De Bruyne’s comments has prompt some Man City fans to react on social media.
