Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has defended their spending after Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp spoke about their transfer window.
The premier league champions broke their British transfer record earlier this summer with the £100m signing of Jack Grealish, but it’s been a quiet window for Klopp and Liverpool.
Klopp recently compared City’s ‘spending power’ to what he presented as a more restricted transfer strategy at Anfield.
In response, Guardiola suggested City are able to spend because their owners take nothing out of the club, unlike other owners, as he challenged any critics to back up their claims.
“I’m not judging the other clubs what they do, they do what they believe,” he began.
“Some owners want to benefit, our owners don’t want to benefit. They want to reinvest in the team. We invest what we can invest. We could spend £100m on Jack Grealish because we sell for £60m. At the end we spend £40m, that is the reality that the club said to me. I don’t know in the future what will happen.
“We have limits for the Financial Fair Play. If they don’t agree they can go to court and make a statement and we defend. Financial Fair Play is the rule for us and we follow absolutely the rules. What happened when in the end we are innocent was 2014 I think and we are now in 2021/12.
“Every season we pass the FFP for everyone. I say the same, there are owners who want the benefit for themselves. Our club, they don’t want to lose money, of course, when they have money to spend we can do it. A few years ago at other clubs always spend a lot of money on a lot on several players.”
This Pep Guardiola’s claim has prompt plenty of Sky Blues to react on social media.
