Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims talks over Raheem Sterling‘s new contract have so far failed to progress as the premier league champions chase transfer deals.
The 26-year-old forward have two years left to run on his deals at the Etihad Stadium, and have already been linked with moves away from the club this summer.
Sterling single-handedly carried England through to the knockout stage, scoring the winning goals against Croatia and Czech Republic during the group phase.
But he struggled to show his best form for Pep Guardiola’s side last season despite netting 14 times and contributing 12 assists across all competitions.
The England man remains under contract until 2023 as things stand, but according to the report, City were keen to get the 26-year-old to commit the ‘peak years of his career’ to the club with a new deal.
According to Simon Mullock for The Mirror, City’s pursuit of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish has coincided with talks over Raheem Sterling’s new contract failing to progress.
The report adds Man City sources insist ‘there is no panic’, with two years left on his current deal. The plan was for Sterling sign a new deal before the start of the new season.
The report claims City feel the transfers need to become a priority this summer and that there is no rush with the €90m-rated star given he is happy and the fact he is still tied down for two years.
Sterling is one of the club’s highest earners on £300,000-a-week and has been a key performer in the Blues winning three of the last four Premier League titles.
The news was shared on Twitter by City_Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters.

Let him go please. Already on undeserved money and he wants even more

This is the right decision. He had a poor season for us last year. Would be silly to give him a new contract after a good international run. Let him prove he’s worth it.

so many people want to get rid of him it’s weird, he’s had one poor season and 2 world class ones in 4 seasons just give him a chance
