Former Newcastle United and England striker Alan Shearer is convinced that England captain Harry Kane will smash his Premier League goals record if he seals a move to Manchester City this summer.
Sky Sports have reported on Monday afternoon that Manchester City have submitted a bid of £100 million for Kane’s talents.
Perhaps this was expected given Kane’s desire to go to the next level and those at the Etihad needing an out-and-out number nine after Sergio Aguero’s departure.
Nonetheless, this is what Shearer had to say about Kane possibly swapping Spurs for Man City.
“Do I think he will do it? (break his PL record) He probably will do,” Shearer told UMM. “I have had it for 20 odd years, so it will go one day.
“And if it goes then why not go to him? He’s a nice guy.
“He will absolutely obliterate (my record) if he goes to Manchester City in three or four years.
“Harry will go for anything between £100-150 million, so it will be in and around that.”
Shearer struck 260 Premier League goals during his career and Kane, who is currently on 166, is slowly catching up on the Newcastle and Blackburn legend.
Injuries aside, there’s no reason why Kane shouldn’t have Shearer’s record done and dusted inside the next five years.
That’s 20 goals per season, and even during an injury-hit campaign Kane can hit those numbers, so imagine what he’ll do if he remains injury-free and potentially playing for a team winning the title.
But those in the Tottenham boardroom will be hoping he can achieve that feat in their colours and not of somebody else’s.
