Manchester City fans were impressed with Tommy Doyle’s performance in the 3-1 victory over Cheltenham on Saturday evening.
The Cityzens were given a huge FA Cup scare by fourth-tier Cheltenham before a late blitz (three goals in the final 10 minutes) gave them a win to reach the fifth round of the competition.
Three important substitutions from Guardiola helped the Blues avoid a shock defeat at the hands of the League Two side who put up a fantastic performance.
Doyle was given a starts at Whaddon Road, as Guardiola attempts to give first-team experience players some rest. The academic starlet will surely be in Guardiola’s plans very soon as he show what Manchester City midfield could look like in ten years time.
The 19 year old was outstanding from set pieces, always providing a threat with superb delivery. In the opening 10 minutes of this game, midfielder Tommy Doyle put two sensational balls into the box that showed exactly what this young midfielder is about. Was quiet in the second half before coming off, in favour of the experienced Gundogan.
Given a rare chance to impress at senior level, the academy captain grew into this game and let his quality do the talking. His delivery, whisper it quietly, was not unlike the kind City have come to expect from Kevin De Bruyne, and it was Doyle picked in De Bruyne’s deep-lying role on the right of a central midfield three.
Many City fans after the match took to Twitter to hail Doyle’s performance, with some suggesting that he is truly a De Bruyne regen.
