Pep Guardiola says he is confident he can convince defender Eric Garcia to stay at Manchester City despite interest from Barcelona.
Barca have been strongly linked with a move for their former academy player, with reports in Spain claiming the teenager wants to return to Camp Nou.
The 19-year-old has impressed for City since the restart, starting in the wins over Arsenal and Liverpool.
Guardiola insists City are working hard to tie the centre back down to a new long-term deal.
“He has one more year on his contract,” said Guardiola. “If they want him they must call him and we are going to try to convince him to stay here for many, many, many years.
“I am confident he will stay but at the end it is his decision. He knows we want him but it is the same with Leroy.
“We want him but if he doesn’t want to stay we cannot do anything else. He knows, his agent knows, his family knows that we want him.”
In reaction to the report shared on Twitter by City Chief and Man City Xtra, fans have expressed their thoughts and opinions on this latest update.

That’s how pep talks about contract extensions. He said the same about sterling before he extended— Naseem (@Naseem169) July 8, 2020
he means that the club wanted leroy to stay but he didn’t want to, it’s up to eric to decide if he wants to leave but he knows that the club wants him to stay— Matt 🥶 (@mcfc_mendy) July 9, 2020
He will not want to try that, if he move to Barcelona, it may be the end of his football career. Let him trade reasonably. Good luck to him— iOS (@OlayemiIgbalaye) July 8, 2020
