Pep Guardiola has confirmed Manchester City youngster Liam Delap will be staying at the Etihad for the 2021/22 campaign whether they sign another striker or not.
There has been plenty of speculation that the 18-year-old striker could go out on loan this season in order to gain some vital experience, with a long list of Championship clubs interested in securing the talents of the highly-rated striker this month.
With City still intent on signing Harry Kane in the transfer window, Delapâs opportunities for minutes this season would be limited if the club are able to get a deal over the line.
However, Guardiola has seemingly ruled out any exit for the Winchester-born attacker, who signed a new deal keeping him at the club until 2026 on Friday.
âLiam Delap for me, for the club, is so important for the future,â Guardiola told the Manchester City club website.
âAt the end of last season, we said we had to extend the contract.
âHeâs going to train with us if a striker comes or doesnât come,â he said. âHeâs going to train with us all the season.
âHim and Cole Palmer, [James] McAtee, [Luke] Mbete, Romeo Lavia. There are five or six players who will be with us the whole season, the same way we have done with Tommy Doyle â who is looking forward to being on loan â like Phil [Foden] when he arrived and started to play with us, he played with the second team then played with us.
âItâs the best way to help their development because the problem in the academies today here in England, the distance between the first team competition in the Premier League and the competition they play is too big. Itâs really big and itâs difficult to promote them from here. Thatâs the best way with the players we believe have potential â like Sam Edozie, another guy â those guys are going to be with us.â
These Guardiolaâs comments on Delap has prompt Plenty of Sky Blues to react on social media.

Delap has netted 40 goals in 54 appearances across all age groups for Manchester City, and has made three appearances for the clubâs first-team in recent seasons.
The 18-year-old is an exceptional talent and this season will be crucial for his development as he looks to make that step up to senior-level football.
Manchester City are set to return to action this weekend, when they host struggling Arsenal, in a game theyâll be looking to pick up another three points from.
