Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan has revealed that he is “relaxed” over his future with the club and hopes to extend his contract.
The 31-year-old, who has made 240 appearances for the Citizens across a five-and-a-half-year period, has scored 46 goals for City since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2016.
Gundogan is out of contact at Manchester City in 2023 but the Germany international is keen to extend his stay at the Etihad.
Speaking to German news outlet Bild, Gundogan said: “I am very happy here (at Man City), I love the club and feel extremely comfortable.
“That’s why I can imagine staying beyond 2023. I still have over a year on contract and am relaxed.”
These Gundogan’s comments on his future were shared on Twitter and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
“Says all about Pep’s man-management skills when Gundogan – his first signing at City – can see himself extending his contract 6 years on from joining the club and having often not been first-choice at times.”

“Time to sell Gundogan, would rather not see him slow the team down like Dinho & Yaya in his last season.”

“How is he slowing us down? Our top scorer last season and just because he isn’t playing as good doesn’t mean we should sell him he’s so important for us….”

Gundogan, who was nominated as City’s vice-captain by his teammates last summer, has scored seven goals and provided four assists in 30 appearances across all competitions this season.
Over the past 12 months, first-team players including Ederson, Ruben Dias, John Stones, Joao Cancelo and Kevin De Bruyne have all put pen to paper on new long-term contracts.
Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez will also see their contracts expire in 2023, while 36-year-old Fernandinho is out of contract this summer.
