Manchester City and Bayern Munich are reportedly close to reaching an agreement over the transfer of Kyle Walker.
The 33-year-old’s future has been in doubt in the week since the end of last season. He has been at the centre of one of the summer’s biggest transfer sagas, with the Englishman wanted by German side Bayern Munich.
The negotiations between the two clubs have been ongoing for some time for the Walker, who is attracted by the idea of a new challenge away from the Etihad.
Still, no deal between Manchester City and the Bavarian side has been struck yet, but Sport1 in Germany believe it’s all looking good.
They say the arrival of the right-back is ‘getting closer’, and the agreement could ‘take shape on the sidelines’ of the friendly the two clubs are taking part in on Wednesday.
Right now, €15m are ‘under discussion’ as a fee for the veteran defender, and while Walker had ‘an offer’ from Manchester City to stick around at the Etihad, he is ‘looking for a new challenge’.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@matjonas100: “Who’s replacing him?”
@999spice: “We are literally losing the last quick player in the squad”
@ManCitty9320: “While we need Walker speed in some games. He makes too many mistakes recently so him going isn’t too bad if we replace him properly”
@DavidGr00471175: “Good luck and thanks. Hard to replace his pace. Will be an opportunity for teams to exploit our weakness now, pace”
@LeeBrom: “€15m euros is way too low to accept for this player. Would rather he played out his final season & left for free than accept something so paltry.”
@OneEyedLycan: “They better up their offer as that is just piss poor and wouldn’t buy one of our academy players”
@craycityfan: “I don’t assess City will sign anyone until Joško Gvardiol is done (signed or not). Obviously, focusing on best in class is great, but hiring for a system if probably more important at this stage. Losing Walker won’t be an entire game-changer, but could lead to multiple signings.”
