Manchester City made one of the biggest Premier League transfers to another country by selling Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window. City, known for their deep pockets, also excel in making money through player sales to fund new signings. Alvarez, who played a key role in City’s recent success, was sold for a massive fee of £64m initially, which could rise to £81.5m based on certain clauses being met.
The sale of Alvarez would make it the fifth most expensive transfer in Premier League history if Atletico pay the full amount. The fee is higher than the £80m Real Madrid paid for Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2008. In terms of transfers to clubs outside the Premier League, only four deals have fetched a higher price than Alvarez’s move to Atletico, including Gareth Bale to Real Madrid and Eden Hazard to Real Madrid.
