Manchester City fans have been reacting to a post on Twitter which relays a report that claims Barcelona are close to signing João Cancelo, with the two clubs currently in advanced talks over a deal.
Once a crucial part of City’s side, Cancelo shockingly joined Bayern Munich on loan in January after having a falling out with Pep Guardiola.
But though the 29-year-old impressed over his 21 games for Bayern, helping them win the Bundesliga title, he does not wish to move to Germany on a permanent basis and has returned to the Citizens.
And while they have had their differences, Guardiola is happy to include the Portugal international in his plans for the coming season, despite shifting away from a formation that requires full-backs.
Branded as ‘sensational’ by Phil Foden via City’s official website, there is no questioning the Portuguese full-back’s incredible pedigree and quality.
While Arsenal have also expressed interest in Cancelo, Barcelona have intensified their efforts to secure the player’s signature. It has been reported that the La Liga giants are in talks to sign the Portuguese international from Manchester City.
This comes from talkSPORT, after it was claimed on Tuesday that Xavi’s side were planning to use some of the budget from Ousmane Dembele’s potential move to PSG to fund the £60 million (Telegraph) man’s arrival.
The acquisition of the Manchester City star appeared to be a tricky affair for the Catalans, but it seems the club are making steady ground in negotiations.
In the latest update from Portuguese news outlet Record, it has been suggested that Barcelona are, in fact, close to securing the services of Cancelo.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
