West Ham United player Vladimir Coufal expressed his desire to disrupt Manchester City’s quest for the Premier League title on Sunday and end their dominance in English football.
Pep Guardiola’s team only needs a win to secure the trophy for the fourth consecutive time at the Etihad Stadium. However, any other result could see Arsenal crowned champions, as they are just two points behind Manchester City with a goal advantage.
In a pre-match interview, Coufal mentioned that Declan Rice, who moved from West Ham United to Arsenal last summer, has been in contact with some of his former England teammates to rally them against Man City.
“I think he [Rice] was in touch with the English boys, but he didn’t text me,” the defender jokingly told Sky Sports. “He’s an Arsenal player, so he cares about Arsenal and their performance.”
The Czech international also shared that he has been receiving messages from Arsenal fans due to having many of them around him. He welcomed the opportunity for Arsenal to potentially influence the title race.
“I have many Arsenal fans around me,” he added. “My son is playing football, so I have big Arsenal fans there. I received some messages from them like, ‘your first goal in the Premier League is coming’ and stuff like that. It would be really nice, but we will see.”
“It would be a great story for West Ham to disrupt Manchester City’s dominance. They could be the first team to win it four times in a row, so it would be nice to stop it.”
