David Moyes and Tim Steidten have a limited time left to make their mark in the transfer window and secure a deal or two for West Ham United. The previous summer window demonstrated that it only took a short amount of time towards the end for new signings to be secured. It is evident that there will be a lot of behind-the-scenes work in order for the Hammers to acquire any targets, and news about potential signings will only be revealed when there is something concrete to report.
According to The Standard, West Ham United is reportedly best placed to secure a loan deal for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips until the end of the current campaign. This potential move could be a stunning coup for the East London club. It is also reported that Phillips currently earns a substantial £135k per week, and West Ham would be expected to cover the entirety of that amount in order to close the deal. Other clubs like Juventus have cooled their interest in Phillips, and Financial Fair Play regulations appear to be hindering Newcastle’s efforts to secure any deals.
If Phillips wants to position himself front and center ahead of the European Championship, he would have to choose between West Ham and Crystal Palace, as they are the only teams credited with an interest in him at the moment. At this stage of the season, West Ham seems to offer a better option for Phillips compared to Crystal Palace. It remains to be seen if West Ham can successfully close the deal and bring Phillips to the club.
