Manchester City fans were perplexed by Pep Guardiola’s side frustrating draw with Liverpool at the Etihad on Saturday.
The Premier League champions were held by Liverpool in a match where they were the better side for the most part.
Erling Haaland gave the Blues a first-half lead after Nathan Ake threaded him through following an Alisson miskick, but Trent Alexander-Arnold levelled the game after the break.
City had a few chances to snatch a winner but had to settle for a draw that keeps them ahead of their Merseyside rivals but did see an end to an extraordinary run of 23 straight wins at the Etihad in 2023.
A contentious referee decision cost Man City a second goal midway through the second half. Ruben Dias tapped in from a corner after Alisson had spilt a corner.
Manual Akanji was adjudged to have fouled Alisson. The moment became a talking point post-game with some believing the goal should have stood.
Man City showed just how good they with their performance against Liverpool. All that was missing was the three points.
Only some poor finishing and some resolute Liverpool defending prevented Man City from claiming all three points.
Here’s how some Man City fans reacted to the draw on social media.
@ftblyousef_: “How we didn’t come away with 3 points blows my mind. Should be taking our chances.”
@AkshatMCFC_47: “So many chances missed….”
@wheelerssssss: “absolutely wasteful”
@Dante55006928: “We really need KDB back….”
@UmCidadoQualqu6: “frustrating this team has lost its killer instinct”
@MCFC_RobD: “Frustrating but we move”
@mcfc_robin2: “Look at it like this guys, we not playing our best football, we missing two of our best players (KDB and Stones), yet we still top of the league. By the time those two return, we’ll be streets clear of the rest of this league”
