Matheus Nunes is the latest Manchester City player to withdraw from international duty, following Mateo Kovacic, Ederson and Nathan Ake in the last two days.

Ake picked up an injury in training last week and didn’t travel with the City team down to Chelsea in the Premier League, promptly pulling out of the Netherlands squad for their final fixtures of 2023.

On Monday, goalkeeper Ederson withdrew from the Brazil squad due to a foot injury picked up against Chelsea – a game where he played 90 minutes.

Matheus Nunes has joined the mounting injury list, as he pulls of out national training with ‘muscle complaints’.

According to Mais Futebol, Matheus Nunes did not participate in the last training session for the clash with Liechtenstein.

According to their information the midfielder ‘presented muscle complaints’ to the Portuguese medical team after Tuesday’s training session and is now a doubt for Portugal’s last two games of qualifying for Euro 2024.

Portugal travel to Zurich, Switzerland at some point this afternoon but it remains to be seen whether Nunes will be a part of the travelling party.

The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
