Manchester City has seen a number of top players come and go since its takeover in 2008, with Vincent Kompany being one of the legendary figures during his 11-year spell at the club. As he now manages Bayern Munich, Kompany reflected on playing against Harry Kane during his time at City, praising the striker’s progress and leadership qualities. Kompany faced Kane four times at City, with three wins for Kompany and one for Kane’s Tottenham side. On the international stage, Kompany also encountered Kane during the 2018 World Cup.
Kane, who joined Bayern for £100m in 2023, has excelled under Kompany’s management, scoring 10 goals in seven games for the German club. Having previously faced each other as opponents, Kompany now appreciates Kane’s mindset and progress as a goal-scorer and leader. The striker’s success at Bayern highlights the positive impact of having Kompany as his manager after their encounters on the field in the past.
