Manchester City have been active in selling players during Pep Guardiola’s time at the club, with various players leaving either on loan or permanently. Despite the exits, City has continued to dominate English football, winning four Premier League titles in a row. Reports suggest that two clubs, Al-Ahli and Al-Ettifaq, are willing to pay the €30m fee City is asking for to sell Joao Cancelo this summer, potentially putting Barcelona’s chances of signing him at risk. Cancelo performed well during a loan spell at Barcelona last season, but is open to a return to Italy if a move to Spain falls through.
Cancelo has not been a regular starter for Manchester City, having not played a competitive match for the club since the start of 2023. If Guardiola does not see a future for the Portuguese international in his plans, it would be in City’s best interest to cash in on him to the highest bidder. While Cancelo desires a move to Barcelona, if a deal with them does not materialize, he could be open to moving to Saudi Arabia or Italy. City will likely prioritize getting the best deal possible for Cancelo if they decide to sell him.
