Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker has reportedly informed Pep Guardiola of his desire to join Bayern Munich.
Walker’s future has been uncertain for a few weeks now following reports that he wanted to leave the Etihad Stadium.
Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel has identified Walker as one of his top targets, and he has attempted to convince the right-back to make the switch to the Bundesliga.
As reported last week, Walker and Bayern Munich have already reached a verbal agreement, which will see the England international sign a contract until 2025 with an option to extend by a further year.
With 12 months remaining on the player’s current deal, Man City were hoping to ward off interest by tying him down to a new contract.
However, according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Kyle Walker has informed Pep Guardiola and some of his teammates of his decision to join Bayern Munich ahead of the 2023-24 season.
While he is part of the Man City squad en route to Japan, it is no problem for Bayern, as all parties involved were aware. However, there are no agreements between the clubs yet.
The report was shared on Twitter by City Xtra and it attracted plenty of attention from the club’s supporters.
@XagonW: “Then why would he get on the flight.”
@GeezyHuncho: “This is crazy”
@SportsDjf: “This source is highly questionable, plus he wouldn’t be on the tour.”
@IHateSo54135885: “Unless he literally just told Pep in the last few hours I find it odd that City would have featured him in the video today knowing well that his intentions are to join Bayern..”
@2_btts: “If it is true , then we have lost a leader but we move.”
@riotmci: “I would say this is a huge loss but we have to think guys, if you remove all the nostalgia and memories, this guy is what? 33?. He’s been getting multiple injuries in the last few years. I hate to say it, but this is the beginning of the goodbye period, whether we like it or not.”
@ov_mcfc: “We might have to keep cancelo, walker saw the gvardiol news and knew his time will be limited.”
@JMAR_03: “Pep needs to just keep Cancelo”
@Haaland_Role: “Cancelo will actually stay”
