Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo has concluded his 2023/24 season and is now on holiday, but the situation regarding his future remains largely unchanged. The club is looking to secure a permanent exit for the Portugal international, as they are unwilling to reintegrate him into their first-team picture.
Despite the lack of concrete developments, it is unclear how long Cancelo could be left in limbo at Manchester City. The latest report from The Athletic indicates that City continues to pursue a permanent exit for the 30-year-old, but there are very few takers for a transfer. Another loan deal, similar to his time at Barcelona last season, is likely in the cards.
Manager Pep Guardiola is not keen on having Cancelo around if he is not part of the playing squad, so City will have to come to an agreement with potential suitors. If an exit cannot be secured before the start of pre-season, Cancelo may still be involved in preparations with the team before their tour of the United States and the start of the Premier League season.
