Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola ‘may walk’ at the end of the season having not signed a new contract, according to Sky Sports pundit Kevin Campbell.

Guardiola, who has guided City to four Premier League titles, four League Cups and the FA Cup, will be out of contract in 2023 and his future at the club remains unresolved.

The Spaniard has always said that he will stay at the Etihad as long as his players continue to believe in his methods and fight for the City cause.

He recently hinted at his long-term future with Manchester City following their dramatic win over Fulham.

With the 51 year-olds contract due to expire at the end of the current season, his claims will give optimism to everyone associated with the club that he will extend his successful spell at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite a clear confidence from within the first-team camp however, reports have highlighted how significant individuals within the operation continue to prepare for a worst case scenario next summer

The Daily Mail recently claimed that the 51-year-old is set to make an official decision on his future during the upcoming World Cup break, with his wife expected to have a big influence on the outcome he delivers.

The break for the Qatar World Cup is fast approaching and Guardiola is expected to decide whether he will extend his stay at Manchester City during the tournament.

Asked by Football Insider whether it was obvious that Guardiola would put pen to paper on fresh terms, Campbell said:

“I’m not sure it is. It has gone quite quiet. He should not be allowed to get down to the final seven months of his contract. If I was a Man City fan I would be worried.

“At the end of the day, he may walk at the end of the season. Guardiola is the key to everything. Right now, he is not secure.

“From a player’s and a fan’s point of view, it is a concern. There is an element of doubt.

“Listen, he might sign a new deal in the break. But there is a serious risk of things being unsettled.”
