Football pundit Fara Williams has recently suggested that Phil Foden may soon find himself out of the Manchester City team. His comments come in the wake of Foden’s stellar performance, where he scored a hat-trick to help his side beat Brentford 3-1 in his 22nd Premier League appearance of the campaign.
Despite being a prominent figure in Pep Guardiola’s team so far this season, Williams believes that this may not continue to be the case for the 23-year-old, as she expressed on a recent edition of Football Daily. She also highlighted that Foden’s versatility makes him a useful figure for Guardiola to rely on, but questioned where he fits in the lineup when everybody is fit at Manchester City.
Williams stated, “We’ve seen that he probably doesn’t have a position that he’s actually settled in, he’s played off the right, he’s played off the left, he’s played centrally and he’s trying to find the position that best suits him. We’ve seen Bernardo Silva be moved out wide for Foden to come in central. I think the interesting thing now when everybody’s fit for Manchester City, where do they play him? Does he still start?”
Foden, who has been featuring in various positions throughout the season, has earned an overall rating of 7.37/10 from WhoScored, making him the fifth-highest-rated player in the City squad. However, Williams raises questions about his regular position in the team.
Despite Williams’ doubts, Foden will likely remain a prominent figure on the teamsheet due to his impressive performances and versatility. Overall, his impact and contributions are valued by both fans and the team. His future role in the squad remains to be seen as the season progresses, but his abilities and adaptability make him an important asset to Manchester City’s squad.
